Prerequisites

At least one sprint plan that has been exported to a connector. Stories must have status changes (approved, rejected, modified) to provide meaningful retrospective data.

Generating a retrospective

Navigate to "Retrospectives" in the sidebar (under Planning & Insights). Click "Generate Retrospective" and select the sprint or date range. The AI analyzes all stories in scope and produces:

  • What went well — positive patterns identified from approved/modified stories.
  • What to improve — common rejection reasons, bottlenecks, recurring gaps.
  • Action items — AI-suggested actionable improvements with owners.
  • Metrics summary — stories completed, rejected, average cycle time, velocity.
Tip: Run a retrospective early even if the sprint isn’t fully complete — the AI will work with whatever data is available and flag incomplete stories in the metrics summary.

Editing the retrospective

All AI-generated content is editable. Click any section to refine the text, add team observations, or remove irrelevant points.

Sharing

Click "Export as PDF" to download a formatted retrospective report. Click "Copy share link" to generate a time-limited public HTML page — no Storymate account required for the viewer.

Note: Share links expire after 7 days by default. You can configure the expiry window in Project Settings under Retrospectives → Share link expiry.

Saving

Retrospectives are saved to the project and listed in the sidebar. You can revisit, re-edit, or delete them at any time.
